The Masjed-e-Soleiman project is located in the south-west of Iran in the province of Khuzestan. It is a high head plant with a rated head of 145 m and a total capacity of 2,000 MW (8 Francis turbines, each with a capacity of 250 MW). The rockfill dam is sealed by a central clay core. The powerhouse is in an underground cavern 260 m long, 30 m wide and 50 m high. The transformer cavern is located downstream of the powerhouse and contains 24 + 2 single phase transformers.
